Bio

I was born and raised in Southern California, attending a private, Catholic school from first through eighth grade. Never once did I think of myself as elite or different. That was school, a place I went Monday through Friday for hours when I could have been doing what any normal child does, climbing trees, figuring out ways to drive my parents nuts, or riding my bike, without safety gear since we didn’t even know what that was in the 1960s. We made hopscotch’s on the sidewalk with chalk and played for hours. Riding a bike up and down a sidewalk was often accompanied by jump ramps where we attempted to fly beyond gravity to reach the moon, like the astronauts we so admired. Skateboards whizzing past were not unheard of, again without safety equipment. Sure, we skinned knees and elbows and bumped heads but we were up and running within the few minutes it took our mothers to clean up the mess and advise us to ‘be more careful next time’.

Bone Song won the Liam Rector First Prize for Poetry in 2014. The prize included publication and copies will be available from April 2015.

Sarah Kennedy nailed the essence of the book in her jacket blurb. Bone Song IS about scars, about how childhood leaves its mark on us forever. Some of those marks become silvery with time, more shadow than scar. Some remain livid. Others, like oysters building pearl around the irritation of sand, form layers of padding against future damage.

B.A. Goodjohn’s first novel, Sticklebacks and Snow Globes (Permanent Press) made the Kirkus Best of 2007 list. Her second novel, The Beginning Things (Underground Voices) is due for publication in November 2015. Her collection, Bone Song, won the 2014 Liam Rector First Book Prize for Poetry and will be published through Briery Creek Press (Longwood University) in April 2015. She teaches English at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia and is the Director of the Writing Program and Tutoring Services. She has also published poetry and fiction in various literary journals including The Texas Review, Zone 3 and Connecticut Review. http://www.bagoodjohn.com

“Most of the time, for me, writing is about sitting down and tapping on a keyboard. It’s not fun, and I can tap for hours before a decent word, let alone a line, appears on the screen. But sometimes, something happens when I’m at the keyboard. I start to type and I think it’s going to be one of those tapping days, and suddenly, it starts. It’s almost audible. Like something crawls up onto my shoulder and whispers, “go go go go go go go go go” in my ear and then slides away. And I pause for a moment, then the words and images start piling up in that weird place between my ears and my eyes, and then they’re there, on the screen and I don’t really feel as if I’m the one typing them but I’m the only one in the room, the only one with my fingers on the keys and the words are about me and mine and people I’ve never ever met before…it’s magical. That’s why I do it.”

Why Powerful Women Make a Difference?

10421545_603877993061661_3180145774269240395_n

I admire women who want to make a change in the live’s of other women with the message they carry in their heart and soul. It is a powerful message for others who need a wake up call from successful, strong women from whom I learn a lot to finish what I started. In order to do that kind of change, you need clear vision of what you want to accomplish and strong spirit. There are a lot of obstacles on your road, but I can tell this, I am not going anywhere. From the rocks, I build a road, so others can have smooth travel towards their dreams and happiness. I am getting stronger and wiser because of these obstacles which try to keep me away from what I feel in my heart, the Right thing to do. So, stay tuned for what comes next, I am here to stay and my mission is clear. I am so grateful about what happened to me because this gives me a power to protect and encourage others, Love and Light, Dianna BelleRose

Wrongly Accused Founding CEO To Take Back Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital

JUPITERApril 7, 2014 — On Wednesday April 9, 2014, Attorney Barry Silver will be holding a press conference to announce that his client, Safe Harbor Founder Kay-Lynette Roca was illegally fired from her 28 year position with the organization. Silver plans to file suit, challenging the legality of said meeting as well as Roca’s termination. Silver will also be challenging the legality of the current board who in October 2013, orchestrated yet another takeover. A group of past board members led by Herbert Baum took Safe Harbor over and abruptly changed the name to Furry Friends.

After a 14 months of being investigated under a microscope, Roca is coming forward and speaking out for the first time about the tragic events that have changed her life this past year. Roca is quoted as saying “I can no longer tolerate watching while the organization that I loved, nurtured and guided for almost three decades is run into the ground by an administration and board with absolutely no background experience or knowledge of animal welfare. I am also speaking out on behalf of myself and my family after being harassed, maligned and slandered by this same administration and board.”

Roca was abruptly fired on January 16, 2013 after Patty Palmer Amoroso and three PBSO employees plotted the take over of Roca’s beloved no-kill organization. Over two dozen more innocent longterm Roca supporters were also fired, then replaced by Amoroso and Verdigi’s inexperienced, overpaid family and friends.

Roca was also quoted as saying that, “Never in 28 years did an animal suffer or die due to neglect or cruelty under my watch.
Yet in just one year, it has been reported that close to a dozen animals have died due to abuse and neglect at our Palm City Ranch and several more have suffered injuries over the last year under Amoroso’s management.” PBACC was also called in at least once due to the shelter deliberately withholding water from the dogs.

“No one, but my family and close friends, will ever know how many tears I have shed or sleepless nights I have battled, thinking about the abuse my animals were suffering at the hands of those people” said Roca.

Silver was stated as saying that the current board “can either do this the easy way by stepping down or the hard way, which will be in a court of law.”
