JENNIFER SARAN Issues a Heartfelt Plea to Voters with “LET THE WAVES WASH OVER ME (SONG FOR CHRISTINE)”

The stirring Narada Michael Walden-produced track to be released October 26, 2018

Los Angeles – When listeners first hear the new JENNIFER SARAN single “LET THE WAVES WASH OVER ME (SONG FOR CHRISTINE),” they will be transported by the singer’s elegant and gorgeous phrasing over producer and co-writer Narada Michael Walden’s impeccably lush bed of jazz-blues instrumentation. But as Saran points out, a second listen reveals the dramatic intention behind her lyrics. There is a message that she wants to convey to the public, and its time is “now.”

“My agenda for the song is very simple: I want people to vote,” she says. “This upcoming mid-term election is so crucial on so many levels, but it’s especially important for women. I want to grab people’s hearts with the beauty of the music, but when they listen again, they’ll hear the words and they’ll understand what I’m saying. Please vote. Please take action. It’s within your power to change things.”

Saran was inspired to write “Let the Waves Wash Over Me (Song for Christine)” during a phone conversation with her daughter, Anjali, in which they discussed how disgusted they were over the recent Senate confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh, and the appalling treatment of Christine Blasey Ford. As Saran recalls, “I said to Anjali, ‘I just wish there was something I could do.’ And she said, ‘There is something you can do, Mum. You can write a song.’ The minute she said that, I felt this incredible energy and said, ‘You’re right.’”

Seizing upon the concept, Saran wrote a set of lyrics and sent them to Narada Michael Walden, with whom she’s collaborated on a number of albums over the years (the two are putting the finishing touches on a new record set for 2019). When the multiple Grammy and Emmy-winning producer read the words, he wrote a stirring melody to accompany them and sent the music back to Saran. “I kept listening to what Narada wrote, and that helped me to refine my lyrics to better fit the rhyme to his melody,” she says. “That was all I needed to complete the song. We’ve always worked so well together in that way.”

When writing the words “I fought him off / I cried out, no one came / I live with the shame,” Saran channeled the striking testimony of Dr. Ford. “For me, Christine has become such a symbol of confronting sexual abuse,” she says. “She had to tell her story to make a point. People don’t speak up because they’re ashamed, or they think that nobody will believe them. So I found myself thinking about Christine in my lyrics. I tried to put myself in her place.”

For his part, Walden says that he was profoundly moved by Saran’s message. “I’m a heart person,” he says. “When I read her lyrics – ‘It’s time for a change / vote them out, in my name / let the waves wash over me’ – I was hit right in the chest. Jenn has an incredible talent for expressing herself. She knows what she wants to say, and she puts her feelings down on paper in an eloquent and unfiltered way. I was knocked out by the stunning beauty of her words.”

At his own Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California, Walden recorded bass, drums and keyboards by himself. Other musicians on the track include guitarist Jim Reitzel and percussionist James Henry, with horns provided by Rich Armstrong and Daniel Casares. Saran flew in to record her vocals on a Sunday night, and a day later they were finished. “Narada and I work very quickly and efficiently because we share a chemistry,” she observes. “He’s a brilliant and fabulous collaborator, and when we lock into an idea, the music just takes flight.”

Walden agrees, saying, “That’s what happens with the best songs – they come to you quickly because the passion and emotions are undeniable.” He draws a parallel between “Let the Waves Over Me (Song for Christine)” and some of the protest music that was prevalent during the ‘60s and early ‘70s. “Musicians were writing about civil rights, taking what Dr. King was talking about and lending their voices to the cause,” he says. “Or they were speaking out the same way that Muhammad Ali did about the Vietnam War. Here we are in 2018, and we have a different situation, but it’s as important. We have to empower ourselves, and it’s crucial everybody speaks out, including artists.”

Saran is wasting no time in getting “Let the Waves Over Me (Song for Christine)” out to the public. “If they’re going to rush through confirmation hearings, dismissing women as ‘less than,’ there’s nothing wrong with us rushing out a song,” she states. “I want radio stations playing it for people when they’re on their way to work. I would love to see people on talk shows discussing it. I embrace anybody who wants to take this message to the people.”

Although the song might strike some as being political, Saran insists that it’s not a matter of choosing between Democrats or Republicans. “It’s just about doing what is right,” she says. “My mother raised me as a single mother, and she instilled certain values in me. So this song is for her, it’s for Christine, for my daughter, and it’s for all women out there – mothers, daughters, sisters and wives.

“I’ll say it again,” she concludes. “This is all about voting. When I saw those hearings, I said, ‘This is not the country of my forefathers. This is not the America that people fought for. This is crazy time.’ But we can change that if we really want to. I’m hoping that, in my own way, I can help bring about some change for the good of everyone.”

Multicultural European Singer-Songwriter EMILY JOHNSON Releases Her Debut EP OPEN YOUR HEARTProduced By NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN

“She has an extraordinary voice, superb.” – John Mclaughlin

San Rafael, CA – Sometimes known as “The Lady of Heart,” EMILY JOHNSON is a Bulgarian-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and composer. Having performed around the world for many years, she is releasing OPEN YOUR HEART, her debut EP, on May 11, 2018, with the help of Tarpan Records in the United States. This EP was produced by NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN and features 4 original songs.

EMILY JOHNSON was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, at a time when the country was still under the influence of the Soviet Union. Her mother is Bulgarian and her father Nigerian, a mix which made her quite different from the other children in her own neighborhood and even her own country. Different by color, but also different in her heightened sensitivity which is expressed so wonderfully in her music.

“Open your heart,” EMILY JOHNSON sings on her soon to be released debut EP of the same name. To her this statement is more than words; it is a way of life. On this release of original songs, she creates her art with something beyond passion, giving herself to her audience with a great generosity, energy, and sincerity. Emily brings others together to ignore prejudices, erase borders, and overcome difficulties. She shares with them a simple pleasure which is to SING!

Emily has been fortunate to work with some music industry greats, including the incredible guitarist John McLaughlin who invited her on stage for an emotional performance of “Redemption Song.” Another is the world famous, Grammy Award-winning American producer NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin), who graciously opened the doors of his Tarpan Studios to produce OPEN YOUR HEART.

Ever since John McLaughlin discovered EMILY JOHNSON on stage on the Côte d’Azur, the Mahavishnu Orchestrafounder has consistently praised her as an artist he already considers “a star.” Emily would certainly reply that she also owes much of her success to his friendship and support. John McLaughlin says, “If one day EMILY JOHNSON is on the top of the charts, it will be because of her talent. She has an extraordinary voice, superb. She has it all! An inner and outer beauty. She can sing everything.”

Emily appreciates this immense compliment coming from an artist with such a career. “He is more than a musician; John McLaughlin is a Legend and a great friend and I am so blessed to know him!” she says. They have performed together several times both live and in the studio. Their relationship is more than beautiful; it is strong, sincere and much more than words.

Even better, John invited EMILY JOHNSON to cross the Atlantic to join NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN, the former Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer who became one of Billboard Magazine’s Top Ten Producers of all time. “John has opened up new horizons for me,” says Emily. “He is not only a friend but also my Light.” “The Light,” as she sings on the track from OPEN YOUR HEART that she wrote and dedicated to him.

OPEN YOUR HEART features some amazing performances, with NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN playing many instruments and featuring performances by Chris “Heist” Walden (Keyboards/Electronic Drums, “Open Your Heart”), Jim Reitzel (Guitar, “Open Your Heart”), and Cornell “CC” Carter and Deedee Simon (Back-up Vocals, “The Light” and “Open Your Heart”). The song “I’m Blessed” features Rapper G-Dub. OPEN YOUR HEART was recorded at Tarpan Studios by Jim Reitzel and mixed by Dave Frasier.

Today this beautiful story continues with new collaborations on both sides of the Atlantic and with the release of her first project, simply titled OPEN YOUR HEART. An obvious choice, isn’t it?

Female Metal Guitarist/Vocalist Tara Lynch to Release Debut Album “Evil Enough” on Friday the 13th Feat. All-Star Line-Up!

Featuring members of Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Neil, Tony MacAlpine, Yngwie Malmsteen and Dokken!

Los Angeles – Tara Lynch (aka “Gui-Tara”) is a guitarist, composer, vocalist and songwriter who delivers heavy metal thunder with prominent melodic guitar riffs, shredding leads and powerhouse vocals. Tara will be releasing her debut album “Evil Enough” this April on Friday the 13th.

“Evil Enough” is a melodic metal album featuring Tara Lynch on all guitars and vocals along with an all-star lineup of guest performances by Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath/Dio), Tony MacAlpine (solo/Planet X), Phil Soussan (Ozzy/Billy Idol), Mark Boals (Dokken/Yngwie Malmsteen), Brent Woods (Vince Neil/Sebastian Bach), Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper) and Björn Englen (Quiet Riot/Yngwie Malmsteen). “Evil Enough” is produced by Brent Woods. All words and music written by Tara Lynch.

Says Tara, “The entire ‘Evil Enough’ album is a musical autobiography. Very often, the term ‘blood, sweat and tears’ is used as a metaphor to describe the work one puts in to something that they are 110% invested in. This would be an accurate metaphor where I am concerned. It has been a tremendously emotional journey into my own soul in order to both write the lyrics that explain my experiences, as well as write the melodies to convey the feelings involved within each experience.”

Primarily self-taught, Tara played both electric and acoustic guitar and wrote songs in her childhood, picking up the bass, drums and piano along the way. Very serious about her musicianship and the unending desire to improve, Tara has personally studied with Steve Vai (Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Björn Englen (Quiet Riot/Yngwie Malmsteen) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater).
Featured performers on Tara Lynch’s “Evil Enough” (alphabetically):
Vinny Appice – Drums (Dio, Black Sabbath, Last In Line)
Mark Boals – Vocals (Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken, Raiding the Rock Vault)
Björn Englen – Bass (Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, Soul Sign, Dio Disciples)
Tony MacAlpine – Keyboards (Tony MacAlpine, Planet X, CAB)
Glen Sobel – Drums (Alice Cooper, Hollywood Vampires)
Phil Soussan – Bass (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Last In Line)
Brent Woods – Producer, Synthesizers, Background Vocals (Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, John Waite)

“I have known Tara for years now and have always been amazed by her grace and poise as a lovely human being and dear friend. Well now it is time for all to be amazed by these divine musical gifts that she also possesses! A great player and singer to not only work with, but to listen and Rock to!!” – Tony MacAlpine

“Tara is like discovering an unfound gem. Combining fantastic guitar playing, great songwriting and amazing vocals she is a new force to be listened to!!” – Vinny Appice

“Tara is an as yet greatly undiscovered talent. Writer, guitar player and singer she represents a powerful presence in this mainly male dominated genre. Working with her on her new record it is evident that she is destined for greatness.” – Phil Soussan

“Tara Lynch has a beautiful natural vibrato that I have only heard in the very top guitar players.” – Derek Sherinian

“Producing Tara’s album was an amazing experience. Her music, lyrics, voice and playing are melodic, aggressive, contemporary, classic and honest… It’s refreshing to hear an artist truly pissed off again!” – Brent Woods

“After knowing her as a friend for many years, I knew it would be fun, but working with Tara is like holding a Tiger by the tail, she is so full of talent and energy, knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to go for it! It was a really great experience!! – Mark Boals

“Tara is just a pure pleasure and honor to work with. She knows what she wants but yet so humble and grateful. And what a talent!” – Björn Englen

“Drummers like to be challenged and Tara’s music definitely fits that description. I had a blast recording these songs and it’s an honor to be featured on a record with so many other great players and friends!” – Glen Sobel

In closing Tara has this to impart, “This album has been a labor of love and an important part of both my personal and musical growth process. At the end of the day, it’s an album that I am extremely proud of and I really hope it touches people out there in the world who can relate to it and that it can help them know they’re not alone.”

Along with the release of “Evil Enough” on Friday the 13th of April, Tara Lynch plans to tour in 2018. “Let’s rock!” – Tara Lynch

Lisa LaRue to Release New Retrospective Album “Origins” Featuring Gilli Smyth, John Payne, Michael Sadler and Others on Melodic Revolution Records

Recently signed to Melodic Revolution Records, keyboardist & composer Lisa LaRue is set to release her new album “Origins” in April 2018! A double album celebrating 25 years and 11 releases by LaRue, “Origins” features some of the best musicians in the business: John Payne Asia, GPS), Michael Sadler (Saga), Mitch Perry (Talas, Aerosmith), Gilli Smyth (Gong), Don Schiff (Rocket Scientist, Kracked Earth), Federico Fantacone (Orchestre Celesti) John Baker (Forever Twelve, Mars Hollow) as well as Steve Adams, Brenda K, Michael Wheeler, Merrill Hale, Svetlan Raket (Par Lindh Project), John “Yafke” Timothy, Michael Alvarez.

Says Lisa, “The title takes it back to where it all started. Finishing a career, where one started. The photo on the back of the CD was taken on Burnett’s Mound, an infamous site in Topeka, Kansas where I grew up, and where the photo of ‘Kansas’ was taken on the back of their first album. They were very influential and inspirational to me as a young keyboardist/musician growing up in Topeka. The Sunflower on the front represents my origins in Topeka, as well.”

Lisa LaRue became the first female artist signed to the Sound of America Records label (SOAR) a sub-label of Natural Visions, the first all-Native American record label founded by Grammy Winner and Motown producer Tom Bee. In 2008 Lisa was nominated for a Hollywood Music Award and was also awarded The Oklahoma Music Award for “Native American Artist of the Year.” Her band 2KX was Nominated as Instrumental Band of the Year in 2011 by the Los Angeles Music Awards.

Lisa has also appeared on recordings by others, including Head Transfer Process (Stargazer), Esquire with Nikki Squire (“Stay Low”), Don Schiff, Ryo Okumoto, Oliver Wakeman, Steve Gresswell, Quester and Beyond the Labyrinth.

The songs on “Origins” were written and recorded over 25 years. Some in a small recording studio in Tahlequah, OK over a year’s time with John “Yakfe” Timothy, and some in Los Angeles working extensively with John Payne as a co-producer, mixing engineer, bassist, and vocalist. Also, certain songs were known as some of the first prog projects done via internet transfer and finalize with “Sussuration” and “Lemniscate,” completely produced and mixed by LaRue.

Says Lisa, “This album is extremely important – it’s important to me, as it represents 25 years of my life and some of the best work I’ve done with some of the best friends in the world. It’s important because it represents the unity and bringing together of many musicians, big and small, through the universal language, music. Lastly, it’s important to fans, as it represents some of the obscure work of many top-notch artists that they may not have in their collection. Melodic Revolution and Nick Katona have always been known for bringing artists together, so there is no better label to showcase this 25-year effort.”

“Lisa has a unique perspective to her music. Her Prog rock style is highly influenced by her Native American roots. The listener is drawn in by the mystical and avant-garde approach. From my point of view, it has always been a pleasure and great experience working with her music.” – John Payne

“A very atmospheric composition, with a lovely tranquil finale. I hear a lot of my father’s influence in it, a beautiful arrangement.” – Aaron Emerson (son of Keith Emerson) regarding the song “Aspiration”

“Some incredible music with 2K9 and 2KX. 2K9 was the beginning….getting to know each other musically, hoping that what you submitted met the criterion, listening to each other’s output and certainly not wanting to overplay. In my opinion, though, this process came to fruition with 2KX’s ‘Fast & Blue’: an accord harmonically, rhythmically, and melodically. I would call a musical synchronicity. Plus I had a joyous yet challenging time contributing!” –  Steve Adams, guitarist for Lisa LaRue Project 2K9 and for 2KX

In conjunction with the release of “Origins,” Lisa would like to focus on licensing for soundtracks, television, etc., and being a guest orchestrator on other artist’s projects. In closing she has this to impart, “This album brings together all of the messages of all of my albums. Heritage and culture, bringing people together from around the world, giving each other creative outlets, and finding your spirit mean you’ve made peace with the world and yourself.”
